This update covers our society's activities between January and March of 2005. Naturally, the winter months prevent outdoor activities, but in the meantime work continues in the planning, promotion, and organization process of creating our mining museum.

This update covers our society's activities between October and December of 2004. Winter came early to the north this year with major snow falls in September so this put an end to some of our outdoor activities.

The Society had a busy summer, in part due to the fact that both Giant and Con Mines were shutting down and starting there clean up process. We were busy doing equipment and artifact acquisition at the mine sites and some on-site building repairs at the A Shaft Area. We hope everybody noticed the big sign on the Giant Mine recreation hall, proclaiming the future site of the N.W.T.

Spring 2004 came to Yellowknife very slowly weather wise, leaving many members of our Society wondering if summer would ever arrive. But as soon as the spring thaw came, work was underway to accomplish our workplan.

The NWT Mining Heritage Society has been quite busy in the pursuit of a mining museum at the Giant Mine site. Events focused around raising public awareness about the need to develop such a facility. Actual planning for what our museum will look like and how we should go about raising the money to achieve our goals has also been taking place.

Yellowknife lost another piece of its heritage on July 16th, when the Burn's Meat Warehouse, located at Con Camp, burned down. It is believed to have been the act of vandals. Although the structure was destined to be demolished later this summer, it is sad to think that it had to go in such a fashion.

The month of March found many of our members out of town on business or pleasure, therefore little or no work was done. No meetings were held.

Our monthly Board meeting was held on February 13 2003.Director Mike Beauregard announced his resignation from the Board due to his busy schedule. He is still interested in our Society's work and will remain as a general member. This resignation includes stepping down from his duties as Chair of the Membership Committee. A big thanks to Mike for his help!
