GEOSCIENCE FORUM FUNDRAISING

Once again this year the Society had a booth at the Geoscience Forum tradeshow. Several members volunteered their time and we made several contacts. Yvonne Quick organized a silent auction in support of our Society, from which we raised $1000. We also raised money from the EBA Engineering fundraiser at the Top Knight pub.

The Society has taken a hiatus on construction and renovations this year but it has been busy lining things up for next year. We have been paying down our debt on the extra work that Arcan Construction had to do when the new roof was put on the Rec Hall. We have also been working with the city to acquire a lease on the site and we have been exploring fundraising strategies.

The Society hosted two nights of entertainment and sightseeing on the Norweta on August 26-27th as part of its fundraising efforts. The first night members of the society and friends were offered tickets to enjoy the sights of Yellowknife Bay and a steak dinner, followed by stories from Geddes Webster, a mining engineer who was in Yellowknife after World War II.

Regular maintenance and repairs of our buildings will continue for the foreseeable future until such a time as we can raise the necessary money to begin major renovations to our museum buildings. A government grant to conduct some foundation repairs to the recreation hall building is being investigated.
