The Society would like to thank INAC and Rowes Construction for the successful backhaul of a jaw crusher from the Hidden Lake gold mine recently. The Hidden Lake mine was in sporadic operation from 1940 to the 1960s. It was cleaned up by the government last summer and the waste was backhauled into Yellowknife this month.

The Society is pleased to report it has signed a lease with the City of Yellowknife for land on which the mining museum will be constructed, at Giant Mine Townsite. The negotiation of this lease took a lot of cooperation from various departments of the Government of the NWT and the City of Yellowknife. The Society would like to thank everyone who assisted with this process!

The Society has erected new signs at its outdoor display area of the Giant Mine townsite. This permanent signage describes 28 individual pieces of mining machinery collected from around the NWT. Thanks to our members involved in the drafting of the signs, and Eddie Paul of Nextreme Construction for welding the plates onto the equipment.

After two months of construction, crews with Eddie Paul’s Nextreme Construction Ltd. completed repairs to the foundation of the recreation hall at Giant Mine townsite, the Society’s proposed mining museum centre.
