Work Begins On Rec Hall

Date

A crew under the direction of Eddie Paul's 'Nextreme' company has begun work on the foundation wall of the Recreation Hall at Giant Mine, the proposed mining museum.

Work began in early July to reinforce the east-facing wall of the building in preparation for pouring a concrete perimeter, to replace the aging wood-post foundation of the 60-year old building. The $100,000 project - funded in part from grants through the Government of the NWT and membership support - will complete the foundation wall started in the summer of 2010, and will ensure the structural stability of the proposed mining museum facility once interior work gets underway in the near future.
