Updates from the Society
Christmas and the dead of winter are almost upon us. Society members and friends are invited to a social gathering at the Bay Side Bed and Breakfast, December 13th from 1-4.
The Society would like to thank the organizers of the annual Geoscience Forum for another wonderful mining conference. Half the proceeds from the charity auction will go to our group, estimated to be at least
$8,000. We also thank EBA Engineering and the Black Knight Pub for hosting a night of drinks, half the proceeds from which were donated to our society. Also, for every pint of beer, $1 was added to the pot. Thank you everyone for their ongoing support!
We would also like to extend a very special thanks to Bill Mitchell, former manager of the Giant Mine Remediation Project. Bill is stepping down from this position. Over the past six years, Bill has been very supportive of our goal to create a mining museum at Giant Mine. He was always ready to help us acquire equipment, arrange tours, and hunt for unique artifacts. As part of our goodbye, we presented Bill with a framed George Hunter print showing a gold pour at Giant Mine.
A reminder to anybody still looking for holiday gifts: the Society’s 2009 Mining Heritage calendar is now available for sale at $20 each or two for $30. You can pick these collectible calendars up at the YK Bookseller or the Chamber of Mines office.
