Cathy will be working out of an office at the Northern Frontier Visitors Centre. We have a new phone and fax number for the new office: tel: 873-6078, fax 873- 6079. We welcome Cathy to the Society and we thank the Northern Frontier Visitors Association for providing us with a discounted office space.

Activities and Updates

Fundraising: The Geoscience Forum was a success. We would like to thank the NWT and Nunavut Chamber of Mines who ran the event and who also bought 140 of our Con books to give away as speaker’s gifts. The Society also sold a number of books and membership at our booth and made some important contacts. We would like to thank EBA Engineering and the Black Knight Pub who ran a fundraiser; the proceeds of which went to our Society. The sale table we had at the Baker Centre sale was also quite successful.

Tyler Heal’s book on Yellowknife Street names, the Times Behind the Signs, is now published and for sale at the Yellowknife Book Cellar. Proceeds from this book go to our Society and we would like to thank Tyler Heal, the Yellowknife Book Cellar and the City of Yellowknife Heritage Committee.

Brian Weir: We are sorry to inform you that Brian Weir is seriously ill. Brian had left town by the time our Society formed but he was an active member of Spirit YK and helped with the airport display and the Walter Gibbins Memorial Display case. He has also donated books and other things to the society. If you would like his contact information please contact us. The Gibbins display case will be moving to the Greenstone Building mid December and hopefully will remain there until our facility is ready for it.
